On November 5, 2011, former LNs of the USMCA Augsburg had their 13th Annual Reunion at the restaurant “Schießstätte” near Rosenau Stadion. Even more than a decade after base closure, more than 100 of the final 351 LNs were present.
Amerika in Augsburg e.V. visited at the meeting and perceived the still lasting corporate identity feeling of the LNs. Sickness and decease, however, are reducing the number of attendants from year to year.
For many LNs base closure caused serious problems in regard to secure means of livelihood, in spite of the TASS agreement between ÖTV labor union and the U.S. Especially many older LNs had problems to find new employment. The Agentur für Arbeit (employment agency) considered them, after a certain time, as “unemployable”, regardless of their bilingual capabilities.
