On 28/04/1945, Wilhelm Ott was appointed Acting Mayor of Augsburg by order of the U.S. Military Government. After differences, he was replaced on 31/08/1945. His successor was Lord Mayor Ludwig Dreifuß.
Together with a letter, dated June 21, 1960, Wilhelm Ott handed out his “Reminiscences of An Acting Mayor of Augsburg” to Lord Mayor Nikolaus Josef Müller. The text of this document is available here as a 48-page PDF download.
Wilhelm Ott was born on 12/04/1886 in Wettenhausen (District of Günzburg) and died on 16/01/1969 in Walkershofen (District of Augsburg). Ott was the son of an innkeeper / postmaster. He studied jurisprudence in Munich and Erlangen. After his civil-service examination (1912), Ott became, at first, assistant at the Augsburg Railway Directorate. Starting in August 1919, he was a professional member of the City Council in several departments of Augsburg’s city administration. After his time as Mayor of Augsburg (April – August 1945), Ott was the city’s Chief / Department of Finance from 1946 until 1958.
